iPhone Advanced Troubleshooting (Bluetooth & Sync)

AlterMe supports iPhones running iOS 15 or newer. Devices using older iOS versions may experience connection or syncing issues.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

If your AlterMe Ring isn’t connecting or syncing reliably on iPhone, follow the steps below to restore a stable connection.

Before you begin

  • Keep Bluetooth ON at all times

  • Make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version available for your device

  • Avoid force-closing the AlterMe app unless you’re troubleshooting

1. Check your iOS version

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap About

  4. View your iOS Version (iOS 15+ is needed to support AlterMe app)

2. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in Settings

On iPhone, Bluetooth can be disabled in two places — and they behave differently.

  • Control Center (swipe down from the top-right) temporarily disconnects most third-party Bluetooth devices, even though Bluetooth still appears “on” for system features like Apple Watch, AirDrop, and Continuity.

  • Settings → Bluetooth is the full Bluetooth on/off control.

If Bluetooth was disabled using Control Center, your iPhone may show Bluetooth as “on” in Settings, but your AlterMe Ring may not connect.

Recommended fix

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Bluetooth

  3. Toggle Bluetooth OFF

  4. Wait 10 seconds

  5. Toggle Bluetooth ON

This fully resets Bluetooth and clears any temporary Control Center state.

3. Allow Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh allows AlterMe to sync data when the app isn’t open.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap Background App Refresh

  4. Set to Wi-Fi & Cellular Data

  5. Make sure AlterMe is toggled ON

4. Allow Location Access (Required for Bluetooth)

iOS requires location permissions for Bluetooth device communication.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Privacy & Security

  3. Tap Location Services

  4. Make sure Location Services is ON

  5. Tap AlterMe

  6. Select Always

  7. Turn Precise Location ON

AlterMe does not track or store your location. This permission is required by iOS for Bluetooth connectivity.

5. Disable Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode can limit Bluetooth performance and background syncing.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Battery

  3. Make sure Low Power Mode is OFF

6. Keep the AlterMe app running in the background

For best performance:

  • Do not swipe-close the AlterMe app

  • Allow the app to run in the background

  • Open the app at least once per day to ensure regular syncing

7. Restart your iPhone

Restarting your phone refreshes Bluetooth and background services.

  • Power off your iPhone

  • Wait 30 seconds

  • Power it back on

  • Open the AlterMe app and allow a few minutes to reconnect

Additional iPhone checks (if issues continue)

If syncing is still inconsistent after completing the steps above, try the following:

  • Temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth devices (Apple Watch, AirPods, car systems)

  • Check that Focus modes aren’t limiting background activity
(Settings → Focus → Review active modes)

  • Make sure notifications are enabled for AlterMe
(Settings → Notifications → AlterMe → Allow Notifications)

  • Confirm Cellular Data is enabled for AlterMe
    (Settings → Cellular → AlterMe → ON)

Last-resort step: Reset Network Settings

If issues persist, resetting network settings can resolve deeper Bluetooth problems.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone

  4. Tap Reset

  5. Select Reset Network Settings

This removes saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, but does not erase personal data.
