How do I update my ring's firmware?

Firmware is the software that comes built into your ring—it's what makes the device actually work. Unlike the app on your phone, firmware lives on the ring itself and handles everything at a low level, from reading your biometrics to connecting to your phone.

Occasionally, you will receive firmware updates. Below, you'll find the quick and easy progress to update👇

Step 1: Open the ring tray

In the AlterMe app, tap on your ring in the top right to open its settings tray. You'll see your device name, current battery level, and firmware version listed here.

Note—you won't be able to update your firmware while your ring is syncing. Wait for your ring to finish syncing first!

Step 2: Check if an update is available

Your current firmware version is shown beneath the "Version" label. If a newer version is available, you'll see it noted in parentheses—for example, 0756 (0788 Available)—along with an orange dot and an Update button.

Step 3: Tap Update and keep your ring close

Tap the Update button to begin. During the update, keep your ring within a few inches of your phone. The firmware is transferred directly from your phone to the ring via Bluetooth, so distance and obstacles can interrupt the process.

⚠️ Don't move too far away. If your ring loses its Bluetooth connection to your phone mid-update, the process may fail and you'll need to start again.

Step 4: Wait for the update to complete

The update typically takes a minute or two. Once finished, the version number in the tray will reflect the new firmware, and the orange dot will disappear.
