What do my calorie targets mean?

How your calorie goals work.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Your calorie goals have two parts: intake and burn. We give you tools to see both at a glance and support healthy, sustainable habits.

Understanding calorie burn

Total calories burned combine three parts:

  • Basal metabolic (calories burned at rest)

  • Active (everyday movement like walking, moving around)

  • Workout (exercise-specific burn)

Understanding your calorie targets

  • Active goal: Your target for active + workout calories each day—the calories you can burn by moving your body.

  • Food/calorie intake goal: Your allotted calorie consumption for each day.

By goal

  • Calorie deficit: Intake goal less than total calories burned (resting + active + workout).

  • Maintenance: Intake goal equal to total calories burned.

  • Calorie surplus: Intake goal greater than total calories burned.
